5 Unique Ways To Divide Up A Space

Many homes today are built with open concept layout. This may work very well for some but not so well for others. In either case, having the option of segregating a space and opening it up when required is a bonus.

With the following unique ways to divide a space, you can create a private zone for as long or short a period as you like:

#1. Bookshelves:

This is the classic method of partitioning a room. As a piece of modern furniture, a bookshelf is chic, versatile and clean. There is a myriad of bookshelf designs to choose from. At the very basic level, you can opt for a bookcase with a back or without. In the latter case, you can look into your other space but still be able to maintain separate spaces. These are often called two modern bookshelves because they provide a display on either side. They make ideal screens.

#2. Curtains:

This is a do-it-yourself solution to split up a large drawing or living room into separate zones. Curtains can be both a temporary or permanent solution, without the need for building walls. You may opt for a heavy material or something sheer. This depends on the level of privacy you want to attain.

#3. Frosted Glass:

The glass is an excellent way to add luxury to your interior space. Etched glass or a frosted glass can up the luxe level! The benefit of a glass partition is that you can easily divide up space without compromising on the light. If you opt for floor-to-ceiling partition, you can also get some noise insulation. Frosted glass works best in rooms styled with contemporary furniture

#4. Partition Wall:

Partition walls help to divide and conquer a large space. You may use it as an actual wall but it also has a pass-through. Its functionality is similar to a bookshelf, except that it appears as a perforated wall.  Partition walls are great for open floor plans and can provide just enough seclusion when necessary.

#5. Decorative Partitions:

Also called Jaalis is the style of partition most frequently used in Indian homes. They add a touch of palatial glamour to space. Jaalis are essentially screens made from metal or wood and carved intricately. These carvings add a touch of history and tradition to your space.
