How to Organize Dinnerware in a China Cabinet?

Looking for a storage space for your dinnerware that also looks and feels beautiful! Then a china cabinet is the answer for showcasing your lovely crockery. China cabinets provide an excellent storage solution with the lower half having cupboard doors that can conceal stuff while the upper half has over lit glass or wooden shelves for you to exhibit your finest piece of chinaware and so forth.

Cleaning and Organizing:

Pause a bit before you rush to get your dinnerware as your cabinet will need a little cleaning.  Dampen a soft piece of cloth or rag and wipe off any sort of dust and dirt from the shelves. For glass shelves, you should use a solution of vinegar and water for cleaning to avoid streaks on the surface. Next, arrange similar types of dinnerware together such as dessert plates, dinner plates, bowls, cups and saucers so that it becomes handy while placing them.

What to Display:
First identify the display areas in your cabinet and then decide and select the individual types of crockery you want to display. Choose your best items such as exotic glassware, hand cut crystal or a spectacular piece of chinaware as the light above will bring out the beauty of these. Pick items which match the tone and decor of your room.  Seasonal accessories can find a place in here which can be easily exchanged for a different item as and when needed. Make sure to arrange each piece in a key location such that it stands out while still enhancing the whole display.

Bottom Storage Layout:

Starting at the top, place your exquisite silverware and fine crystal glasses. Items that are rarely used such as for formal dinners are best suited at the top. Teacups, saucers, dinner plates, salad plates and dessert plates will find a nice place in the second shelf. Large and heavy items which need not be displayed such as large serving platters will be the most comfortable in the bottom shelf of the cabinet. Place the larger items first so that smaller accessories can be easily placed on top to maintain a natural stacking order. Utilize your bottom storage to the maximum as display is not a concern here, however, storage is. Store smartly so that smaller items remain in the front for easy access.

Display Shelves Layout:

Start from the bottom shelf and arrange items that you selected for display such that larger items are set deepest into the shelf. Serving platter can be laid back vertically either in a holder or a ridge built in the shelf. Stack plates on top of each other at the front such that the items at the back are partially visible. Set some fine crystal cut bowls and plates on either sides to add variety.

Space apart a soup tureen, a pitcher and a gravy boat on the next shelf. The top shelf can be home to smaller items such as teacups, coffee mugs and hand blown bowls.
