Factors To Consider When Arranging A Room

An empty room is like a blank canvas; an opportunity for you to decorate and arrange contemporary furniture in it. With so many options, it’s easy to get frazzled and fall short on proper placement.

The following guidelines might not jump-start your career in interior design, but it will surely give you a professionally-arranged room:

Function:

Start by examining how you plan to use the room and how many people will be using it. This will prescribe the type and quantity of modern luxury furniture you can incorporate into your space.

Focal Point:

What is your room’s focal point? Is it a window, a sofa, a coffee table or something else? Position your furniture accordingly. For instance, if your television stand is the focal point, maintain an appropriate distance. Ideally it should be thrice the size of the screen. This means if your television set is 40 inches, your chair distance must be 120 inches.

Coffee Tables

Priority:

Start by placing large furniture pieces such as the couch/sofa in the drawing room or bed in the kids’ bedroom. You can easily make this the focal point of your space. In the drawing room, place chairs not more than eight feet away so as to enable conversation. Avoid pushing furniture right up to the walls (unless your room is very small).

Symmetry:

In a formal room, symmetrical arrangements work best. In a casual room such as a family room, opt for an asymmetrical arrangement.

Traffic:

Consider the traffic pattern in your space, especially between doorways. Do not block this path with furniture. Try to direct entry into a room to the seating area.

Modern Bed

Variety:
Install furniture pieces of different sizes throughout your space. This keeps the eyes moving around the room. Balance a tall or large item by placing an item of similar height directly across it. You may also use art to replicate the height. Avoid placing two tall items beside one another.

Contrast:

The human eye likes contrast so mix together curved lines with straight ones. For example, if you have modern or linear furniture, place a round table in for a great visual contrast. For curvy shaped furniture, place an angular item.

Easy-to-Use:

Place a side table or modern glass coffee table within each reach of every seat. Keep leg room in mind during placement. If you have a reading chair or recliner, ensure it has an accompanying table lamp or floor lamp.

Circulation:

Take a walk around your room, are you able to pass through without bumping into furniture? If you answered “no”, then you have a circulation issue. For example, when setting up a dining room, keep a minimum of 48 inches of space between the table’s edge and the nearest furniture piece or wall. If you must shorten the distance, 36 inches is also acceptable. In a bedroom, there should be 24 inches of space between your bedside and wall.

Leather Sofa's

Planning:

Before beginning the arduous process of moving your furniture, test your ideas on paper. Measure the room’s dimensions. Take note of heaters, electrical outlets, doors and windows. Draw a floor plan accordingly and place your furniture. A digital planner works better and saves you a lot of time (it’s also a lot of fun).

How To Make A Small Home Look Spacious?

Whether you have a flat with small proportions or a small house that is as large as a bachelor ad, there are many ways to manipulate the perception of space. From selecting a suitable color palette to choosing appropriate contemporary furniture, the following ideas will help you transform your home from looking small to spacious:

Choose an All-White Scheme:

This is one of the easiest and oldest tricks in a designer’s bag of tricks. You can also opt for an all-white exterior on all modern furniture pieces and even on floors. If everything white is not suitable to your taste, consider introducing subtle yet complementary shades via accessories and accents such as a leather club chair or ottoman.

Install Flexible Furniture:

Flexible furniture or furniture that performs the double duty is a small home’s best friend. For example, opt for a media cabinet with a fold-down desk. It can be used as a place to stash your Blu-Rays, CDs and gaming devices as well a desk to work at your laptop. A dining bench is great as extra seating in front of your dining table or in your living room. It can also be used as storage by lifting up the seat.

Go Clear:

If your budget doesn’t allow for bespoke furniture, consider glass furniture pieces. You can opt many glass furniture items such as a console, center table, glass shelving and dining table. Since glass is see-through, it is effective in creating the illusion of space.

Dining Table

Take advantage of vertical space:

Freeing up floor space is critical in a small space home. This is when you have to take advantage of your wall space. Fun ways of doing this are opting for wall-mounted shelves, wall lamps, and shadow shelves. Such items naturally draw the eye upwards giving the impression of a tall and spacious room. Even a sofa or char with long, spindly legs is an excellent option.

Embrace mirrors:

Mirrors are an underestimated and underutilized accessory. These small wonders are magical when it comes to creating the illusion of space. In a small room, a few wall mirrors can do wonders. Apart from their ability to reflect light, mirrors are capable of maximizing light, creating the illusion of space.

3 Interior Decor Styles Explained!

Your home décor style provides a sneak peek into your personality. Your characteristics and disposition plays a major role in determining which style you will incorporate into your space. While there are many interior décor styles out there, the three mentioned below are the most popular:

Traditional:

In tre key defining features. Traditional déchis style, symmetry and balance aor is famous for inciting feelings of comfort and warmth through furniture designs, furniture placement and color choice. The furniture pieces you select are formal in appearance and tend to be the focal point in the room. They are usually made from cherry, oak, maple or mahogany and often have carved moldings and intricate woodwork in them. The arrangement of the furniture is centered around comfort.

Another feature of traditional interior décor is the use of fabrics. The furniture pieces tend to be upholstered with materials such as linens and velvets. Window treatments typically consist of curtains made from heavy fabrics. Accessories such as candle stands, bowls, mirrors, modern vases and sculptures are liberally used.

Modern:

In modern interior design, form and function go hand-in-hand. This décor style came up in response to the traditional décor style. Modern design celebrates asymmetry, clean lines and minimalism. The modern furniture placement celebrates a clutter-free and open floor plan.

In terms of color, muted colors such as greys, beiges and light brows are used. Bright shades are often used as accent elements or base tones, usually in the accessories or upholstery.

Contemporary:

Contemporary décor is a serious interpretation of the modern style. It has a clear focus on form, shape and line. More importance is given to natural light, open space and maintaining freshness. The furniture pieces often feature clean lines and sleek features without extravagance. The entire look of contemporary design can be described as masculine and muted. Visual interest is generated via materials instead of colors.

Contemporary furniture features soft edges, clean lines and slim silhouettes. Natural fabrics and light colored woods are used. The upholstery is tailored without skirts or ruffles. Texture is given more importance.

In terms of color, tone-on-tone palettes are preferred, i.e. white and cream, brown with beige or tan with taupe, etc. Contrast is not created with the addition of bright hues. Shades of the same color are used to draw out variety and depth.
